Reconstruction of the rack "Rocket" (1961) for the exhibition "Thing! A Substantial Talk" (2021)
Yuri Musarov defended his diploma at the Moscow Art Pedagogical University (former Stroganov University) under the guidance of the outstanding Soviet furniture designer Yuri Sluchevsky. He presented a project of a rack, that participated in the famous All-Soviet-Union exhibition "Art in everyday life!" in 1961.
Unfortunately, the fate of the original rack is unknown. Therefore, we had to restore the design and the structutre using two photographs, which are presented at the beginning of our project. Based on the materials preserved from the past and the logics of its usage, we made the identical movable doors for the closed section on the both sides of the rack to ensure the easy access to the things stored there. We also assumed that the shelves were adjustable in height and could be fixed in the rack grooves. Materials for the shelves were also chosen taking into account the popular solutions of the 1960s: instead of solid wood we used veneered plywood and colored plastic, which was rare and very fashionable in these years.

The project was carried out together with Alexander Semenov and Alena Sokolnikova.
